ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Senior Cody Reine put together a career performance to pace the No. 16 Sooners to their best offensive performance of the season in a 10-5 win over New Mexico at Isotopes Park Saturday Night.

Reine finished with a career-high four hits and also drove in four runs and scored four more off a three-run homer and three doubles.

“Our offense was firing on all cylinders tonight and Cody Reine led the charge,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “We did some really good things tonight. The most important thing is we are constantly trying to teach. We have some pretty strong philosophies about how we like the game played at the University of Oklahoma and we have a relatively new bunch this year. Regardless of the score, we have to keep teaching. If we continue to play with this energy I think we will be a team that continues to develop and that is the most encouraging thing so far.”

The Sooners (6-3) fell behind 2-1 after the first inning, but came back with eight unanswered runs, including three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. The fifth frame was highlighted by Reine’s first home run of the season, a three-run blast to right field, and a RBI single by Garrett Carey.

In the fourth frame, Jack Mayfield tripled and came around to score on Carey’s first RBI of the contest and Reine (double) and Max White (single) also drove in runs in the inning.

The Lobos dropped to 2-7 on the season and Rudy Jaramillo (1-1) took the loss after his four-inning start. He gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits.

While offense was the story of the game, OU received another quality start from Steven Okert who improved to 2-0. The big left hander lasted six innings and tossed a season-high 108 pitches to accompany his seven strikeouts. Okert allowed two runs off four hits and was relieved by Damien Magnifico who pitched the final three innings for his second save of the year.

“Steven settled down and pitched really well for us tonight,” added Golloway. “So that’s back-to-back starts where he has settled in really good.”

While Reine finished with four hits, White, Carey and Caleb Bushyhead all added three base knocks apiece. The 15 base hits was a season high for the Sooners and the second straight game with double-digit hits. OU also tied a season high with 10 runs in the ballgame.

The Sooners and Lobos conclude the series on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Isotopes Park. The game can be heard on the Sooner Sports Network KREF 1400 AM.
