NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team suffered its first defeat of the 2013 season, falling to No. 29-ranked Pepperdine, 7-2, Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The loss to the Waves (7-4) snapped a 10-game winning streak to open the 2013 campaign for the Sooners (10-1).

Junior infielder Matt Oberste continued his solid start to the season, going 3-for-4 with a triple and his team-leading fourth home run of the year. The two-time reigning Big 12 Conference Player of the Week has hit safely in 14 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 season and has posted a team-high six multi-hit games so far in 2013.

Freshman infielder Kolbey Carpenter tallied a career-high three hits while freshman outfielder Craig Aikin contributed two base knocks.

Junior right-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Gray fanned seven over six innings but was saddled with the pitching loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.

Pepperdine jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the first, but OU clawed back to even with a run in the third and another in the fifth. The Waves went back in front, 3-2, in the top of the sixth, then plated four more insurance runs in the ninth.

The Sooners go for the weekend series victory over the Waves Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT. The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Oklahoma Plus.
