PEPPERDINE, Calif. -- The No. 14 Sooners were unable to hold on to an early 3-0 advantage on Sunday and fell 7-6 in the series finale against Pepperdine. The game was shortened after a travel curfew came into effect after the Sooners at-bat in the top of the eighth.

OU jumped on top 3-0 in the first inning after some wild Pepperdine pitching helped three Sooners cross home plate. Waves' starter Alex Najera faced three batters but did not register an out before the first Pepperdine reliever entered teh game. Najera gave up all three runs after hitting two Sooner hitters and walking another to begin the contest.

Pepperdine countered with a run in the bottom of the first and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third after a pair of home runs from Matt Forgatch and Bryan Langlois.

The homers and a RBI single in the third inning ended OU starter Steven Okert's afternoon with just 3 2/3 innings pitched. Okert gave up four runs off six hits and five walks but registered a no-decision after the Sooners tied the game at six runs apiece in the seventh inning.

A sacrifice fly by Hunter Lockwood in the fifth inning and a RBI single by Garrett Carey cut the Pepperdine lead down to one.

In the seventh, Lockwood struck again with his second sacrifice fly of the game to tie the game at six. Unfortunately, Pepperdine came back with a run in the seventh off reliever Jordan John (1-1). John was solid in two innings of work, his second appearance of the weekend, but the RBI single off the bat of Joe Sever proved to be the difference as the game was cut short due to a travel curfew.

Pepperdine reliever Michael Swanner (1-0) was credited with the win after recording two outs in the seventh and two-way player Aaron Brown, who was 1-for-3 on the day at the plate, moved to the mound from the outfield to record the save.

"We didn't swing the bats very well this weekend and didn't get the starting pitching we needed from all three of our guys," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "We have a lot of work to do."

OU welcomes Hartford next weekend for home opener and three-game series. Friday’s opener is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
