Andrew McGuire enters his second season as a member of the OU coaching staff. After lettering for two seasons as a starting outfielder on the team, McGuire served as the team's student assistant coach in 2005. McGuire will once again fill the role as the Sooners' first base coach and will also help out the team by working with the outfielders and the hitters.
As a senior, McGuire was one of the Sooners' top offensive threats. He was tied for the team lead in home runs, led the team in walks and just missed finishing the season with a .300 mark, closing the year at .291. He ended the 2004 season as the only Sooner named to the Oklahoma City NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team after hitting .500 over the three games. Earlier in the year, he reached base safely in 38 straight games and established a career-best hitting streak of eight games.
McGuire was a two-time all-conference selection at Grayson County Junior College, under current OU assistant coach Tim Tadlock, prior to arriving in Norman. He batted better than .350 both seasons and accumulated 25 home runs and 116 RBI in two years.
A native of Sherman, Texas, McGuire also excelled off the field at OU where he was twice named to the Sooner Scholar and Big 12 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll list. He graduated from Oklahoma in spring 2005 with a bachelor's degree in human relations and currently resides in Norman.
