Sooners, Engel Finish Season At NCAA Championship

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team finished in the top-10 for the third consecutive year, placing eighth with 262 points at the 2012 NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Ky., at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

Oklahoma finished second among Big 12 competition in the meet behind in-state rival Oklahoma State, who took home the national championship title for the third time in four years with 72 points. Wisconsin (135), Colorado (158), Northern Arizona (191) and Florida State (238) rounded out the top-five, respectively. Ahead of the Sooners were BYU (245) and Tulsa (247), who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Redshirt senior Bill Kogel was the top OU finisher with a 30:19.8 effort to be the 51st runner to cross the finish line. Fellow redshirt senior Patrick Casey followed in 67th place with a time of 30:29.7, while Riley Masters, also a redshirt senior, finished in 30:30.5 for a 73rd place effort.

Another redshirt senior, Kevin Williams took 78th finishing in 30:33.4 with redshirt sophomore Ryan Poland close behind at 89th in 30:38.6. Andrew Weaver, the last of five redshirt seniors for the Sooners, took 123rd clocking in at 30:56.6, while redshirt freshman Brandon Doughty rounded out the Sooner squad in 31:18.5 to finish 170th out of 245 runners.

The lone female representative for the Crimson and Cream, redshirt senior Jessica Engel, placed 57th with a time of 20:26.4, which is 32 spots higher than her finish at last year’s championship meet where she finished 86th in 20:54.

Kogel, Williams, Casey, Masters, Weaver and Engel leave the Sooner program with national championship appearances along with All-Big 12, All-Region and All-America honors.
