The 2012 Big 12 Cross Country Championships will be held Oct. 27 at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin, Texas. Saturdays meet marks the second time Texas has hosted the event, having also played host in 2003.
The conference meet kicks off at 10 a.m. CT with the women's 6,000-meter race. The No.6 Sooner men will follow at 11 a.m. CT with the 8,000 meter run. The event is free to attend.
The top men's and women's teams are crowned league champions, while the top 15 individuals in each race earn All-Big 12 honors. The top newcomer in each race will earn Newcomer of the Year accolades.
Senior Bill Kogel placed sixth at last year's competition with a team best 23:36.37 effort. Kogel will be joined by fellow redshirt seniors Kevin Williams, Patrick Casey, Kyle King, Riley Masters and Andrew Weaver. Also representing the Crimson and Cream will be redshirt sophomores Daniel Nicolls and Ryan Poland along with redshirt freshman Dan Schubert.
Williams, Nicolls and Poland also ran in last year's competition with Williams finishing in the top-20 with a 24:04.9, 11th place run. The men's team took second place overall behind Oklahoma State.
Four other nationally ranked men's squads will join the No. 6 Sooners in No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Texas, No. 25 Iowa State, and No. 30 Kansas.
Jessica Engel earned her first All-Big 12 honor and took a team-best fifth place last year with a time of 19:47.1.
Rounding out the Crimson and Cream alongside Engel in the 2012 race are seniors Molly Ferguson and Robin Ray, junior Hilary Krein, redshirt sophomores Erin Gaffney and Myranda Joiner, as well as sophomore Lantana McGraw.
The women's field consists of three top-25 opponents with No. 2 Iowa State No. 14 Texas and No. 27 Oklahoma State. The women finished eighth overall in the 2011 competition.
