NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's track and field team will begin its 2013 outdoor campaign as the No. 13 team in the country with Tuesday's preseason release by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
OU is joined by fellow Big 12 members Texas (No. 4), Oklahoma State (No. 22), Kansas State (No. 23) and Iowa State (No. 25) in the top 25 poll.
Oklahoma's roster features two returning outdoor All-Americans from last year’s 2012 outdoor track and field team, in Tre’ Lathan and Jamel Wood. Lathan secured second team honors in the 110-meter hurdles, while Wood was a member of the second team 4x100 relay.
Five members of the Sooners squad are ranked in the top-10 of their respective events, to begin the12013 outdoor season. Senior Riley Masters leads the way in the 1500-meter run as the No. 3 runner in the nation (3:37.19). A pair of distance runners also find themselves in the top-10 of their event as Bill Kogel (28:39.54) and Kevin Schwab (28:53.70) take the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, in the 10k. Kevin Williams rounds out the distance corps as the No. 7, 5,000-meter runner to begin the 2013 season, while Lathan begins his final year in the Crimson and Cream as the No. 7 110-meter hurdler.
The Sooners host their lone outdoor meet of the season this Friday and Saturday – the John Jacobs Invitational – at the John Jacobs Track and Field complex.
