NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men’s track and field team re-entered the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top-25 as the No. 22 team in the country, following its performance at the Razorback Invitational this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., the organization announced today.
Additionally, both the men’s and women’s team are ranked sixth in the Midwest Region.
The jump comes after several stellar performances by the Sooners, including the nation’s quickest mile from senior Patrick Casey, who won the event in an Oklahoma program-record time of 3:56.28.
Three other Sooners had stellar performances in Fayetteville and now find themselves in the top-25 of their respective events.
Kevin Williams posted the second-lowest mark in the 3000-meter run with a time of 7:57.93, and is now one of three runners in the country with a sub-eight minute mark, while fellow teammate Ryan Poland is ninth in the same event with a time of 8:01.95. Frezer Legesse sits 16th in the 800-meter run after he crossed the finish line in 1:50.01 to finish fourth in the event at the Razorback Invitational.
OU is joined by three other Big 12 members in No. 11 Texas, No. 18 Kansas State and No. 21 Oklahoma State.
The Sooners will split this weekend with select athletes traveling to New York, N.Y., for the highly anticipated New Balance Invitational on Feb. 1-2 for one of the nation’s premier indoor meets, also known as The Armory, while the distance corps will make way to Notre Dame, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational.
