Jan. 18, 2013

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma track and field teams host the J.D. Martin Invitational Duals Saturday at the Mosier Indoor Facility. Field events begin at 11 a.m. CT, with track events set to start at 12:30 p.m. CT. Admission to the meet is free for all of those planning to attend.

In addition to Oklahoma, student-athletes from Grambling State, North Texas and UT-Arlington are scheduled to compete.

Live stats will be provided by Delta Timing and can be found by following this link.

The meet is the first competition of the season for the majority of Sooners. A total of 24 men are scheduled to compete in nine events, while 20 women are entered in eight events.

A slew of Sooner men and women are ranked in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) preseason top-35 list.

Tia Brooks leads the Sooner pack, as the No. 1 female shot putter in the nation to begin the 2013 indoor track and field season. She is followed by teammate Karen Shump who sits 13th in the country.

One other member of the women's team, Kristen Rice, finds herself on the list with the 27th-best high jump performance from last season.

The OU distance corps has several representatives in the top-35 in Patrick Casey, Frezer Legesse, Bill Kogel, Kevin Schwab and Kevin Williams. Both Casey and Kogel are found on two different lists. Casey sits fifth in the 800-meter dash and 23rd in the mile, while Kogel is 19th in the 3,000-meter run and 21st in the 5,000-meter run.

Legesse holds the 15th lowest mark in the mile, while Kevin Williams is 12th and Kevin Schwab is 32nd in the 5,000- and 3,000-meter run, respectively.
