NORMAN, Okla. - Meshell Trotter and Travis Grasha, both of Texas A&M, ignored the on again, off again rain and posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks at Saturday's Sooner Outdoor Invitational.
Trotter threw 196-2 (59.80 meters) on her third throw to win the women's hammer throw and, in the process, beat the NCAA provisional mark by 3.80 meters. Meanwhile, Aggie teammate Grasha threw the javelin 227-8 (69.40 meters) on his first attempt to win the event and beat the provisional mark by 2.10 meters.
For the host Sooners, Bambi Carson won the shot put and finished second in the discus, Dana Hillsman won the triple jump and Kyle Bookout won the discus. For Carson, it was her third consecutive win in the shot put and fourth during the 2000 outdoor season.
Despite the weather, a total of 11 Sooners established season bests in their events and eight posted career bests. OU had a small contingent in Norman as the rest of the Sooner team participated in the final day of the Drake Relays on Saturday.
A pair of former Sooners also won events Saturday as Donnette Brown won the 100- and 200-meter dashes while Cecile Cargille took the 400-meter title.
The Sooners will travel to Austin, Texas, next Saturday for the Texas Invitational.
