Leith Claims Hurdles, Sets OU Record

MANHATTAN, N.Y. -- Sheldon Leith highlighted competition for the University of Oklahoma indoor track team at the first of two days of competition, Friday, at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City.

Leith claimed the men's 60-meter hurdles title with a time of 7.73, an Oklahoma program record. Leith had held the previous record of 7.79 with former Sooner Jason Stanley. 

Latoya Greaves also recorded a top-three finish in the 60-meter hurdles in the women's division, finishing third with a time of 8.31.

Tony Clement finished second in the men's 1,000-meter race with a season-high time of 2:24.08. Jacob Boone finished seventh in the same race with a time of 2:27.36.

Marcus Pugh took third in the 60-meter dash, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the second straight week with a time of 6.64, just off the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 6.63.

Scottesha Miller posted an NCAA provisional qualifier mark in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet and 2.50 inches (6.16 meters), a indoor personal best, en route to a sixth-place finish. Miller also finished 11th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.48.

Freshmen Kelly Waters and Jessica Engel finished sixth and seventh in the 1,000-meter race with times of 2:56.23 and 2:56.41, respectively.

Tijahnni Newton posted a season-high time of 55.65 in the 400-meter dash en route to a 20th-place finish.

Saturday's action at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational kicks off at 9 a.m. with the women's 5,000-meter run.

A group of OU athletes will also be competing Saturday in Lincoln, Neb., at the Adidas Classic, which begins at 9 a.m. CST with the long jump and the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims.
