Orlando Catalan Jr. is in his first season as a volunteer assistant for the University of Oklahoma volleyball team.
Before arriving in Norman, Okla., he was the second assistant for the Team Florida High Performance Boy's Youth National Team. There, he helped the team to a fifth place finish at the High Performance Championships.
Catalan was also the head coach of the Atlantic Coast Juniors (18 year group) in Daytona Beach, Fla.
In 2011, he was a volunteer assistant for Joslynn Gallop at Embry Riddle University, where he helped the team to a conference championship without dropping a single set (42-0).
The Eagles ended the year with No. 6 national ranking with a 30-6 record, which included a trip to the Elite Eight at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament. Catalan's main responsibilities while with the Eagles were coaching setters, scouting and recruiting.
Catalan also spent time training with the German professional team SCC Berlin, throughout 2011.
Catalan was a member of the USA Athletes International Volleyball Team in the 2010 DKV International Volleyball Tournament in Holland.
The Florida native played collegiate volleyball at Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla., from 2007-11.
In his senior year, Catalan was selected team captain and named the starting setter.
The Royals finished with a program best fifth-place ranking in the NAIA and a 16-7 final record. The team also achieved another first in program history after it qualified for the NAIA National Invitational with the No. 5 overall seed. |

In his senior campaign, the Royals were tabbed the regular season conference runner-up in the MAMVIC-East Division, conference tournament runner-up and runner-up in the Collegiate Invitational Beach Qualifier.
In 2009, as a junior, Catalan sat first on the team, second in the Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference and fifth in the NAIA Division in hitting percentage (.380). That year, he helped lead the team to the MAMVIC conference semi-finals and a 16-14 final record.
In 2007 and 2008 the team finished wtih national rankings of ninth and eighth, respectively.
While at Warner University, Catalan acted as a student assistant coach for the women's volleyball team from 2007 to 2010. He helped the team to a 16-14 record in 2009, the team's first winning season. He also helped lead them to a 13-10 record in 2010.
In 2006, Catalan was a student assistant for the Lake Howell Girls Volleyball team, helping the team reach the Final Four (Class 5A) in Florida with a 24-7 overall record.
Catalan has also worked at numerous volleyball camps, including those at the University of Oklahoma, the University of Florida and Texas A&M.
