Presided over a pass defense that ranked second in the Big 12, allowing 206.1 ypg in 2012. DBs Aaron Colvin and Tony Jefferson were both named All-Big 12 First Team.
 
Has coached 28 NFL Draft picks while players under his direction have combined for 11 national awards, 12 All-America honors, 31 All-Conference honors and 35 Academic All-Conference honors.
 
Is the only coach to have an athlete win both the Nagurski Award (best defensive player) and the Thorpe Award (best defensive back) in the same season and has done so twice with Roy Williams (2001) and Derrick Strait (2003).
 
In his first stint at Oklahoma (1999-2003), four of his five defenses finished seventh or better nationally in scoring defense and in the top 10 for total defense.
 
As head coach at Arizona, guided the Wildcats to a school-record three consecutive bowl games in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons. His 2010 squad reached Arizona's highest regular-season ranking, No. 9, in the last 13 years while his 2009 team finished second in the Pac 10, its highest finish in 13 seasons.
 
Had nine wins over nationally-ranked opponents and defeated a ranked team in each of his first seven seasons at Arizona.
 
Established 84 Arizona program records under his watch.
 
The 2003 Sooners' defense under Stoops ranked No. 3 nationally in total defense, No. 2 in pass defense, No. 5 in scoring defense, No. 5 in turnover margin and No. 20 in rushing defense.
 
In 2002, OU was No. 6 nationally in scoring defense, No. 9 in pass efficiency defense, No. 10 in total defense, No. 14 in rushing defense and No. 25 in passing defense.
 
In 2001, OU ranked No. 4 nationally in scoring and total defense, No. 5 in pass efficiency defense, No. 10 in takeaways, No. 7 in rushing defense and No. 11 in passing defense.
 
The 2000 Oklahoma defense was No. 2 in pass efficiency defense, No. 5 in turnovers gained, No. 7 in scoring defense, No. 8 in total defense, No. 9 in passing defense and No. 23 in rushing defense.
