Coaching Accomplishments
Has contributed to some of the most exciting offenses in OU history. A two-time finalist for the Frank Broyles Award for the nation's top assistant coach, he won it in 2008.
Has coordinated three of the most productive offenses in college football history in 2003, 2007 and 2008. The 2008 offense set NCAA records by scoring 60 or more points in five straight games and 716 for the season.
Received 2007 NFF of Oklahoma Merv Johnson Award for Coaching with Integrity.
Led a 2009 offense that was decimated with injuries affecting eight starters including five with season-ending injuries. QB Landry Jones led all freshmen nationally with 23 TD passes despite missing a three halves of action during the season. Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray became the first OU players on the same roster to eclipse 40 career TDs.
Had outstanding athletes lead a balanced offense in 2008. QB Sam Bradford won the Heisman Trophy and passed for 4,720 yards and 50 touchdowns; Chris Brown (1,239 yds) and DeMarco Murray (1,002 yds) were on one of only two teams in college football to have two running backs rush for more than 1,000 yards in the same season. It was the sixth consecutive year that OU produced 1,000 yard backs; Juaquin Iglesias caught 74 passes for 1,150 yards and Jermaine Gresham hauled in 66 passes for 950 yards.
Coached a Mackey Award Finalist and All-American in tight end (Jermaine Gresham, 2008); an All-American and Outland Trophy Winner (Jammal Brown, 2004); Vince Carter, a 2004 All-American and a two-time Rimington Trophy finalist and a Johnny Unitas finalist (Zac Kustok, QB, Northwestern, 2001).
In 2008, Matt Clapp (fullback) and Jermaine Gresham
(tight end) were first team All-Big 12.
Coached two first round draft picks (Jammal Brown, OL, Oklahoma, 2004, and Davin Joseph, OL, Oklahoma in 2005), a second round pick (Chris Chester, OL, Oklahoma, 2005), a sixth round pick (Wes Sims, OL, Oklahoma, 2004) and five free agents including current San Francisco 49er TE, Joe Jon Finley.
In 2007, all three tight ends were on the All-Big 12 team. Brody Eldridge was selected as the first team fullback while Jermaine Gresham was a second team TE and Joe Jon Finley was an honorable mention TE.
Since 1990 Wilson has coordinated some of the most
prominent offenses in NCAA history at OU, Northwestern and Miami of Ohio.
The University of North Carolina grad was a walk-on
offensive lineman, who earned a scholarship while playing on several outstanding UNC teams. He also holds a master's degree from UNC. He was a three-sport star in high school.
