Despite numerous lineup changes, the interior of the 2012 Oklahoma defensive front combined for 56 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Worked around several injuries in 2010, but still forged a solid defensive front. By the time the Big 12 title game rolled around, converted defensive end Pryce Macon was a starter. He logged five tackles for loss and three sacks in that game.
Coached Gerald McCoy in 2009 to second straight All-America season. Group had 25.5 TFLs, 11 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Led by All-American Gerald McCoy, the defensive interior was again menacing in 2008. The group had 14.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Had one of his least experienced groups in 2006, but OU was second in the Big 12 and No. 16 nationally against the rush.
In 2005, Dusty Dvoracek was a consensus All-Big 12 selection after leading the nation's DTs in tackles for loss with 19. The Sooners ranked No. 4 in rushing defense.
Despite losing a pair of All-Americans and featuring one transfer and two freshmen in the rotation in 2004, he crafted an interior that showed great improvement.
In 2003, he coached Tommie Harris, winner of the Lombardi Award, a consensus All-American and finalist for the Nagurski and Bednarik awards. He also coached All-Big 12 DT Dusty Dvoracek.
OU's linemen had 32 TFL and 15 sacks in 2003.
Two of his players, Tommie Harris and Kory Klein, earned All-Big 12 honors in 2001.
In 2000, he had four DL selected to All-Big 12 teams, including first team selection Ryan Fisher.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A PLAYER
A first-round pick (14th overall) of the Miami Dolphins where he played five seasons. He helped the Dolphins post a 48-31 record, make two playoff appearances and advance to the 1985 Super Bowl. Shipp was the Dolphins' leading tackler (79) in 1987 and finished his career in Miami with 231 tackles.
Played one season with the LA Raiders (1988).
A standout linebacker at the University of Oklahoma, he starred on Sooner squads that posted a combined 33-14-1 record, won two bowl games and captured the 1980 Big Eight Championship.
Earned all-conference honors as a junior and senior, and was selected as an All-American by Football News following his junior campaign.
In the 1982 border clash with Texas, Shipp had 23 tackles, an OU single-game record.
Totaled 489 total tackles in his career which stands No. 2 at OU. Also owns the single-season record for tackles with 189 during his soph campaign (1981). |
