Coaching Accomplishments
Returned to the defensive end position for 2010, and helped Jeremy Beal rank among the top 20 nationally in tackles for loss. He led the Big 12 and ranked No. 2 in the league in sacks.
Secondary ranked No. 10 nationally in pass efficiency defense in 2009. Four players received All-Big 12 honors. The `09 defense gave up fewest passing yards in Big 12.
OU added two new starters at corner in 2008, but still flourished, scoring two TDs. The Sooners led the highscoring, pass-happy Big 12 in pass efficiency defense.
Helped 2007 OU defense to the No. 3 Big 12 defensive pass efficiency ranking. OU was second in the conference with 19 interceptions. Three DBs (Nic Harris, Reggie Smith, D.J. Wolfe) received first-team All-Big 12 honors.
In 2006, OU led the Big 12 and ranked No. 13 nationally in pass efficiency defense. All five players who started in the secondary received all-conference recognition.
Moved to the secondary in 2005. Two players earned postseason honors. The Sooners ranked No. 21 nationally in passing efficiency defense. In Big 12 games, OU ranked No. 1 in completion percentage, No. 2 in passing efficiency and No. 3 in passing yardage defense.
OU defensive backs had more interceptions in 11 games of 2005 than in 13 games of 2004.
The 2004 DEs, Dan Cody, Jonathan Jackson and Larry Birdine, were No. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, in Big 12 sacks.
Special teams coordinator in 2004, he saw OU rank No. 1 in the Big 12 in kickoff coverage (15.7 ypr.) while giving opponents an average of just 4.2 yards on 21 attempts.
In 2003, his ends had 35 TFL, 20 sacks and 59 hurries. In `02, the DEs accounted for nearly half of the team's sacks. In `01, the ends combined for 21 tackles for loss.
Under Wright's guidance, All-Big 12 receiver Mike Adams broke every UT record in 1996.
His `91 secondary led nation in pass efficiency defense.
