OU staff members will be spreading the excitement for the upcoming athletics season.
NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU Athletics Department announced today as part of a new grassroots marketing campaign that the Sooner Street team will begin making appearances at different locations throughout Oklahoma during the year to promote the University of Oklahoma and its 21 athletic teams.
The Sooner Street team has joined forces with the popular Hoop Troop from the 2010-11 season to form the Athletics Department's new community outreach efforts. The team is comprised of staff members from the OU Athletics marketing and ticket offices.
The Sooner Street team kicks off its promotional efforts on Saturday Aug., 20, at the Homeland locations on Lindsey and Robinson in Norman. As part of Homeland's customer appreciation events, the street team, along with OU Spirit, will be on-site handing out 2011 football, soccer and volleyball schedule posters.
Fans are also encouraged to stop by and pick up their "Sooner Hoops Crazy" bracelets to wear to the Men's Basketball Alumni Game on Saturday Aug. 27, at noon at the Lloyd Noble Center. The game is free to the public and will feature Sooner greats such as Alvan Adams, Hollis Price and Blake Griffin.
"Get Sooner Hoops Crazy" is part of a new marketing campaign to promote OU men's and women's basketball. In conjunction with the alumni game, a new basketball website, GetSoonerHoopsCrazy.com, will be launched on August 27 as a fun and interactive way to be a part of OU basketball. Fans will get the chance to play interactive games, read coach's blogs and twitter feeds, and get up-to-the-minute updates on what's going on with Sooner hoops!
