Do only athletes live in the Sooner Housing Center (SHC)?
No. Actually more non-athletes live in the SHC than athletes.
Where is the SHC located?
On the corner of Lindsey St. and Jenkins Ave. across from Subway/O'Connell's and Football Practice Field/Switzer Center.
How do you get to live in the SHC?
By contacting the SHC Main Office by e-mail at email@example.com.
Can I get a tour of the Sooner Housing Center?
Yes, it is best to schedule one in advance by calling (405) 325-8403.
If I am taking a campus tour, will I automatically see the Sooner Housing Center on the tour?
No. You have to schedule a tour separately.
Will checking the Sooner Housing Center box on my housing contract, cover my applying to live in the SHC?
It's a start. We would suggest you e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How many people live in the SHC?
Around 78 females and 150 males.
Do I have a chance to actually live in the SHC?
Yes. As much chance as anyone else.
Can my friend live next to me?
Yes. That would be a special request that you need to mention in your e-mail to the Sooner Housing Center.
Does the SHC have parking?
Yes. Actually the SHC has a very good parking situation. We have our own parking lot that holds enough spaces for the SHC Residents only.
Do the female rooms have a private bathroom?
No. Jefferson House has community bathrooms. However, each shower has a brick wall between the next shower and shower curtains to create total privacy. The bathrooms are also cleaned every day and are cleaner than your bathroom at home.
Can I have meal points?
No. Meal points are only available if you live in the Towers or the Quads. The Sooner Housing Center has its own dining plans that are separate from University Housing.
Does my meal plan include weekend meals?
No. Due to low numbers of people that use the Dining Facility on weekends, it is closed. This is actually what students prefer. It gives the students an opportunity to eat off-campus. Also reduces missed meals due to sleeping in, going out of town for weekend or attending social events off-campus.
Is there a curfew?
No. The housing staff will not monitor when you come in and out. The only thing that is monitored is opposite sex visitation. That is for your safety and the safety of your guest.
Does a room in the SHC have cable?
Yes. Each room has cable already in each room. The cable package is from Cox Cable and includes the extended basic channels. Further cable coverage can be purchased by each room through Cox.
Does a room in the SHC have internet?
Yes. Each room has two internet plugs that are hardwired to the University Servers. All you need to connect to the system is a ethernet cable.
Does a room in the SHC have a fridge?
No. Fridges can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Target. Fridges can also be rented through Valet Today and they will be delivered to your room.
Does a room in the SHC have a microwave?
No. Jefferson House has microwaves in the lounges on each floor. Jefferson House rooms can not have microwaves, because it will trip the power breaker. Jones and Wilkinson Houses can have microwaves in their rooms. Microwaves can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Target. Microwaves can also be rented through Valet Today and they will be delivered to your room.
Does anyone clean my room?
No. You have to clean it yourself or you can hire Valet Today to come and do it. They will also do your laundry for a price.
How do I contact Valet Today?
You can go directly to their website or you can go to the main housing web page for OU.
Can I have a pet?
The only pets you are allowed in any residence hall are fish.
Do I have to pay for my room in advance?
Each resident is required to pay a Housing Application Fee and a Housing Deposit in advance when you turn in your Housing Application. The rest of your room and board costs are charged to your University Bursar Account. The Bursar's Office will mail a statement to the student for all charges on their Bursar's Account.
What size sheets do I need for my bed?
Once you receive your housing assignment through the mail, we suggest you come back on-line to check. Each possible place you live, has a floor plan that includes furniture in your room. It will also contain bed size, window size and room sizes. Please make sure when you are looking at your floor plan, you have the same place as your assignment letter states. Each residence hall has different dimensions and bed sizes.
What if I want to send some things to my new room by UPS or USPS?
That is fine. We can keep it here til you arrive. If it is a big package we will stick it in your room ahead of time, just to get it out of our way.
What is my new address going to be?
Well, that depends upon which house you are going to live in. Please note that each house has a different street address.
