NORMAN | Oklahoma averaged more fans at home games during the 2006 season than any in its history.
 
OU's average attendance in 2006 for six home games was 84,561 including a record crowd of 85,313 who jammed Memorial Stadium to watch the Sooners defeat Texas Tech, 34-24, on November 11. 
 
Oklahoma was the home team in three games played away from Norman including the Texas game in Dallas, Big 12 Championship and Fiesta Bowl. These games were not included in home figures.
 
Overall, nearly a million fans were in attendance at 14 Sooner football games during the 2006 season. A total of 975,608 watched OU play in Norman and away venues combined.

With the expansion of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to an official capacity of 82,112 and with every home game exceeding that capacity, Oklahoma set numerous attendance records in 2006. In fact, the top 10 largest crowds in Memorial Stadium history have occured in the past three seasons.
 
The largest crowd ever to watch a game in the history of the state of Oklahoma jammed Memorial Stadium on November 11, 2006. The Sooners defeated Big 12 rival Texas Tech, 34-24, in front of 85,313 fans.

The 2006 Texas Tech  game also ranked No. 6 in the all-time list of record crowds to watch the Sooners play regardless of location. No. 1 on that list is the memorable1977 game at Ohio State when 88,119 watched Sooner kicker Uwe von Schamann split the uprights to give Oklahoma a 29-28 win over the Buckeyes in the Horseshoe.
