In October 2000, as head football coach Bob Stoops was preparing for the Nebraska football game that was destined to be part of that year's Red October and eventual National Championship, he spoke to a gathering of Campaign for Sooner Sports supporters.

Stoops discussed how challenging it had been to prepare for the game because the week had been rainy and miserable. How wonderful it would be, Stoops told the crowd, to have an indoor training center where players could practice in inclement weather or after dark.

In 2002, with a lead gift from Jim and Christy Everest of Oklahoma City and support from other important donors, that wish was fulfilled.

The 74,000-square-foot Everest Training Center includes a full-sized playing field, simulated stadium lighting, a complete scoreboard with play clocks, LED 40-yard timing devices and a ceiling that hangs 65 feet above the playing surface to allow for all kicking and throwing drills.

Considered one of the premier indoor facilities in the entire country, the Everest Training Center is enhanced by the Roy Williams Strength Training Facility, created with a gift that former OU All-American Roy Williams made after he began his professional football career with the Dallas Cowboys.
