Opponent Respect

Following OU's 16-13 loss to Texas, Longhorn offensive coordinator Greg Davis noted that Sooner defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was the best player on the field that day.

Davis was then asked by an Austin reporter if McCoy was in the same class as former Sooner All-American defensive tackle Tommie Harris.

Replied Davis: "McCoy is better."

Quotes

"I don't like to draw comparisons between players, but Gerald is as complete a player and person as we've had during my time at Oklahoma. He continues to be one of the most dominant and respected defensive tackles in college football, a fact that we see in the blocking schemes he faces. He has tremendous quickness, leverage and drive."

- Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops

"(Defensive tackle) Gerald McCoy is unbelievable. I looked him up after the game and I told him, ‘My gosh, bless your heart. What a great player you are, son."

- Texas Head Coach Mack Brown

"I know about all the football players and how busy their schedules are. I know that he has so much more on his plate, but he still makes time to reach out and have a positive influence. It’s an inspiration for me to try and do the same for people younger than I am."

- Tyler Couch, 15-year-old student at Norman North High School
