NORMAN –  Oklahoma senior guard Gabbi Ortiz was voted to the 2017-18 CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team, the organization announced Thursday.

Ortiz is the first Sooner to be recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection since Whitney Hand in 2013.

The senior boasts a 3.86 cumulative GPA majoring in human relations. Ortiz was recently named to the 2018 Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, her third such honor of her career.

Ortiz ranks second on the team scoring with 13.1 points per game and leads the Big 12 in 3-pointers made (80) and minutes per game (36.7). The Racine, Wis., native has made 117 career starts at OU and was named the 2015 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools, and other affiliations.

OU hosts its final regular-season home game on Saturday against Texas Tech. Tip-off is set for noon inside Lloyd Noble Center.
