NORMAN -- The Griffin Family Performance Center moved one step close to completion, as OU held a ceremonial "topping out" ceremony outside Lloyd Noble Center on Wednesday.
Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione, men's basketball junior Rashard Odomes and women's basketball junior Ijeoma Odimgbe addressed the crowd of supporters, donors and others instrumental to the project amidst the backdrop of the construction outside of Lloyd Noble Center.
After the ceremony, everyone in attendance, including current members of both teams as well as athletics department staff, were invited to sign the beam that will be placed at the top of the new structure.
The Griffin Family Performance Center is named in honor of former Sooner Blake Griffin and his family, who commited in August 2016 to financially support the construction of the 18,400-gross-square-foot training center. The addition is being built south of the men's and women's basketball practice gyms.
The facility will help enhance strength training for both programs, as well as other Sooner student-athletes.
