Volleyball Visits Texas Tech Wednesday
The University of Oklahoma volleyball team hits the road Wednesday, November 8 to visit Texas Tech. The action get underway from United Supermarkets Arena at 6 p.m. Wednesday’s match will air on FOX Sports Southwest and can be streamed on the FOXSportsGo app or FOXSportsGo.com. Geoff Haxton (play-by-play) and Mike Moffitt (color commentary) will be courtside for the call.
ABOUT THE SOONERS
Coming off its first five-set win since September 2016, the Sooners are 6-18 overall and 3-8 in the Big 12; heaped in a three-way tie for fifth with West Virginia and Texas Tech. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking leads the OU attack with 3.99 kills and the defense with 2.94 digs per set. She tallied her fifth double-double in a row and 14th of the season in Saturday’s 3-2 win over West Virginia. Junior outside hitter Madison Drescher is second on the team with 2.94 kills per set after knocking down 17 vs. the Mountaineers. Junior setter Audrey Alford guides the Sooner offense to the tune of 9.18 assists per set. She has chipped in 1.92 digs per set and went for 52 assists and 10 digs on Saturday for her fifth double-double of the season and third match of 50 assists or more this season. Redshirt-junior libero Rachel Manriquez is coming off a season-high 22 digs and three service aces as she now averages 2.60 digs per set. Oklahoma is 1-4 away from its home floor in conference play this season with its lone win being a sweep at TCU (Oct. 18). The Sooners aim to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Nicholls (Sept. 8) and Southern Miss (Sept. 9) at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic in New Orleans. OU last won back-to-back Big 12 matches when it won three in a row vs. WVU (Oct. 7-9) and Tech (Oct. 12) in 2016.
SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS
Texas Tech is 14-10 overall and 3-8 in the Big 12 after a 3-1 loss at No. 3 Texas this past Saturday. The Red Raiders, who have lost four out of their last five, are 7-3 on their home floor this year. Emily Hill leads the way with 3.22 kills to go with 2.21 digs per set. Katy Keenan is hitting a team-high .368 with 2.19 kills and 0.69 blocks per set. Setter Missy Owens has collected 10.96 assists and 2.03 digs per set. On the attack, she has added 1.25 kills per set on a .356 attack rate. Libero Kate Klepetka averaged a team-high 3.85 digs per set, which ranks sixth in the Big 12.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Oklahoma played its most complete match of the season with a 3-0 dismantling of Texas Tech (Oct. 4) at McCasland Field House. The Sooners hit a season-high .358 as Alyssa Enneking hit .324 on 15 kills and Madison Drescher hit .312 on 13. Paige Anderson added eight kills and hit a team-best .500 with three blocks. Katy Keenan was one of three Red Raiders with 10 kills and hit a match-leading .562.
ALL-TIME VS. TECH
For the first time in series history, Oklahoma leads the all-time series over Texas Tech; 36-35. The Sooners have won 23 of the last 24 to pull ahead and are 24-3 against the Red Raiders under Santiago Restrepo, who took over the program in 2004. Prior to 2016’s season sweep of TTU, OU had twice evened the series at 4-4 and 6-6; both in 1979. The two teams met for the first time in 1976; a 2-0 win for Tech in Nacogdoches, Texas. Since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996, Oklahoma holds a 27-16 advantage.

In just three starts against Texas Tech in her career, all 3-0 wins, Alyssa Enneking has averaged 5.11 kills per set on a .350 hitting percentage. She has recorded 12 kills or more, including a series-high 19 at Texas Tech (Oct. 12, 2016). Enneking has also averaged 3.11 digs and 0.89 blocks per set with two double-doubles against the Red Raiders. Madison Drescher has averaged 3.11 kills and 0.78 blocks per set against Tech. Audrey Alford has dished out 12.89 assists per set, including a 40-assist night in a sweep of Texas Tech (Nov. 12, 2016).
ENNEKING CLIMBS KILL CHART
Alyssa Enneking enters Wednesday with 359 kills on the season. She currently ranks fifth in kills in a single season during the 25-point, rally-scoring era (2008-pres.). Since 2001, Enneking’s 359 kills this season are the 10th most by a Sooner. Kierra Holst holds the Sooner record for kills in a single season during the current era with 450 in 2014. Enneking’s 14-kill effort against West Virginia (Nov. 4) moved her from sixth to fifth past Holst’s 346 kills in 2013. She is now chasing Suzy Boulavsky’s 407 kills in 2011 for fourth and is just 91 back of Holst’s record.
FIVE-SET STREAK SNAPPED
Oklahoma’s 3-2, five-set win over West Virginia (Nov. 4) snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Sooners in five-set contests. OU last won in five against Mississippi State (Sept. 3, 2016) at the UALR Tournament. Since 2015, the Sooners are just 3-13 in five-set matches and last won more than one five-set match in a season in 2014 with a 3-6 record.
