Sooners Take Down Tech in Straight Sets

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Texas Tech for its first league win at McCasland Field House on Wednesday night. The Sooners snapped an eight-match losing streak and improved to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12, while the Red Raiders dropped to 12-5 and 1-3.

“We tell our players to do their jobs and tonight I think they did a pretty good job of that,” said 14th-year head coach Santiago Restrepo. “Tonight we put everything together. This team has it in them to win. We’re starting to get healthy and it shows.”

Oklahoma’s straight-sets victory came by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-22. The win marked the third sweep of the season for the Sooners.

In the first set, OU trailed early at 4-5 before an 8-1 run. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) and freshman middle blocker Paige Anderson (McKinney, Texas) each tallied three kills over that run as the Sooners pushed their lead to 12-6.

Oklahoma took command of the second with a 4-0 run to go in front 7-3 with a back-to-back blocks that forced a Tech timeout. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Leslie Atherton (Tulsa, Okla.) contributed to each block.

Junior outside hitter Madison Drescher (Southlake, Texas) secured the win with her 13th kill of the night coming on match-point. She hit .312 for the match with two blocks. Enneking led the Sooner attack with 15 kills on a .324 attack rate. She added 10 digs for her team-leading eighth double-double of the year. Junior outside hitter Morgan Miller (Magnolia, Texas) added nine kills and 11 digs.

Three hitters reached double figures for the Red Raiders as Katy Keenan, Emily Hill and Chandler Atwood all posted 10. Keenan hit a match-high .562 with just one error on 16 attempts.

The OU offense was guided by junior setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) with 39 assists. Redshirt-junior libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) paced the back row with 17 digs.

The Sooners return to the floor at home on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match-up with No. 11 Kansas. Admission is free following the OU football game.
