The University of Oklahoma volleyball team hosts its first “Fan Appreciation” match of the season when No. 11 Kansas visits McCasland Field House on Saturday, October 7. Admission is free as the match is set for a 7 p.m. start time following the OU football game.

ABOUT THE SOONERS

Oklahoma is 4-13 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12 following a sweep of Texas Tech at home on Wednesday night. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking continues to lead the Sooner attack with 4.11 kills per set on a .247 attack rate along with 2.83 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Madison Drescher is second with 2.78 kills per set; averaging 3.69 in four conference matches. Junior setter Audrey Alford returned from a two-match absence due to injury to lead OU’s attack with 39 assists in three sets against the Red Raiders. She averages 8.87 assists and adds 1.89 digs per set. Junior Morgan Miller has divided her time between outside hitter and setter; averaging 4.40 assists, 1.91 kills, 1.74 digs and 0.58 blocks per set.

SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS

No. 11 Kansas and defending league champion is 4-0 in the Big 12 and 15-2 overall. The Jayhawks have won five matches in a row, including a four-set win at West Virginia on Wednesday night. KU outside hitter Kelsie Payne is the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year and leads the attack with 4.26 kills per set on a .343 hitting percentage. Fellow outside hitter Madison Rigdon is second at 3.65 kills per set o go with 2.59 digs per set. Setter Ainise Havili, a three-time AVCA All-American and two-time Big 12 Setter of the Year, guides the Kansas offense to the tune of 12.00 assists, while adding 3.20 digs per set.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Kansas claimed the season series with a 3-1 win over Oklahoma in Norman on November 5, 2016. The Sooners came out strong and took the first set, 25-23, but the No. 4 Jayhawks answered by winning the next three by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 27-25 to run their win streak to 10 matches. Needing to win the fourth and extend the match, Oklahoma held an early 8-4 lead in the fourth and was in front by as much as six at 18-12. Kansas pulled even at 22 and finished the match on an ace from Havili. OU’s Marion Hazelwood hit .448 with 16 kills. Payne paced the Kansas offense with 21 kills and Havili dished out 53 assists to Alford’s 51.

ALL-TIME VS. KANSAS

Oklahoma leads the all-time series, 48-37. Kansas swept the season series in 2012 and won its third in a row against the Sooners in Lawrence on October 9, 2013. OU ended that streak with a 3-1 win at home on November 20, 2013. The series started with a 2-0 OU win in 1976. KU has been ranked in each of the last six match-ups, including a Sooner win at home in 2014 against the No. 23 Jayhawks.

BY THE NUMBERS: OU VS. KU

Audrey Alford has started three matches against Kansas in her career. She has averaged 10.73 assists and 1.64 digs per set. Rachel Manriquez has played against the Jayhawks four times and averaged 3.64 digs per set, including 22 in the most recent match-up. Last season, Alyssa Enneking posted an 11-kill, 15-dig double-double against KU.

MILESTONE TRACKER

Setter Audrey Alford recorded the 2,000th assist of her Sooner career against Kansas State (Sept. 20). She moved into ninth all-time at OU against Maryland (Sept. 15) as she recorded the 1,910th of her career to pass Jessica Barney (2001-02). Alford, who reached the 2,000-assist mark in her 61st match and now has 2,108 in her career, is now chasing Julie Chester (2004-07), who dished out 2,794 career assists, for eighth all-time at Oklahoma.

LIBERO TRACKER

Freshman Kira Morikawa has earned the bulk of the starts at libero with 13 through 16 matches of her rookie campaign. As a starter she is averaging 3.37 digs per set. Redshirt-junior Rachel Manriquez has been called on to start the other four matches to push her career total to 46 starts at libero. In her career, Manriquez has averaged 3.38 digs per set and started 13 matches in 2015 and all 29 matches in 2016.
