Sooners Clash with Pacific Saturday
NORMAN – The Oklahoma women’s tennis team is set for a clash with Pacific Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The Sooners enter the matchup at 3-4 overall. In its last contest, OU routed North Texas, 7-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners grabbed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, then picked up straight-sets victories in all six singles matches to shut out the Mean Green.
Lily Miyazaki leads the Sooners from the No. 1 line and is ranked 18 in the latest ITA release. The senior has compiled a 3-2 record on the season. Fellow senior Malene Stripp is 3-1 on the year at No. 6 singles, while newcomers Jasmine Asghar and Skyler Miller are 2-1 on courts two and six, respectively.
In doubles play, two pairs remain undefeated. Jasmine Asghar and Chrisite Brigante are 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Simran Seth and Camila Romero also own a 2-0 record at No. 3.
Pacific comes into Saturday’s contest at 2-1 on the season. The Tigers fell to UC Davis, 5-2, in their last match, marking the team’s first loss of the year.
In singles play, Maayan Sela paces the Tigers with a 3-0 record from the No. 2 line. Anneroos Nederstigt, Sabrina Rodriguez and Anna Ramos Vinolas are all 2-1 on the year.
Vinolas and Yuki Asami lead Pacific in doubles action, owning a 2-1 record on court three.
Saturday’s match will mark the first-ever meeting between the Sooners and Pacific.
Free pizza will be provided for the first 150 fans in attendance.
The Sooners will host a kids clinic following the match. The event is open to students ages 5-13 in the Norman and Oklahoma City areas. No prior registration will be required.
Participants should bring snacks and water bottles, as well as a racket. A limited number of rackets will be available for those who do not have one.
