NORMAN – Oklahoma women’s tennis is slated for its home opener Friday night, when the Sooners will face Arkansas at 5 p.m.
The Sooners enter Friday’s matchup at 1-3 on the season. In its last matches, OU made its first ITA Kickoff Weekend appearance since 2014, but fell to South Carolina, 4-0, and USC, 4-0, in Columbia, S.C.
No. 14 Lily Miyazaki continues to lead the team in singles from the No. 1 line. The senior is 1-1 on the season in singles action, and with partner Camila Romero, owns a 1-2 record in doubles.
OU will look to build on last season's home court defense; the Sooners posted a 10-3 record at the Headington Family Tennis Center in 2017.
Arkansas comes into the contest at 1-2 on the season after falling in both of its matches at ITA Kickoff Weekend. The then-No.18 Razorbacks were downed by Wake Forest, 4-1, and Kansas, 4-3.
Leolia Jeanjean leads the squad in the No. 1 slot, winning seven of her last 10 matches extending back to fall tournament play. The senior is Arkansas’ only ranked player in singles, checking in at No. 67 in the latest ITA release.
Jeanjean and Giulia Pairone hold a No. 25 ranking in doubles action after posting a 9-1 record in the fall. Jackie Carr and Tatum Rice are No. 34 in the latest doubles rankings, and went 8-2 during tournament play.
Arkansas owns the all-time series against the Sooners, 16-9. The last meeting between the programs was in 2017 in Fayetteville, where the Razorbacks bested the Sooners, 6-1.
