Brigante Set for Colorado Invite Final

BOULDER, Colo. –  The Oklahoma women's tennis team wrapped up singles play at the Colorado Invitational Friday night with senior Christiana Brigante headed to Saturday's Silver draw championship match.  

Brigante held on to defeat NMSU’s Elena Arnaudova, 6-4, 7-5, in the semifinal. In her first-round match, Brigante made quick work of Brigette Beck of Colorado, winning 6-2, 6-2. Brigante will take on Danielle Quevedo (New Mexico) in the final.

The Black draw will feature an all-Sooner consolation final, with Camila Romero facing her teammate Malene Stripp Saturday. Romero fell to New Mexico State’s Lindsay Harlas, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, before topping Louise Ronaldson of Colorado, 6-3, 6-3.

Stripp went the distance with Colorado’s Annabelle Andrinopoulos, but ultimately fell, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. The senior bounced back to defeat Rebecca Keijzerwaard of New Mexico State, 6-2, 6-3, in the consolation semifinal.

Simran Sethi will play in the Gold draw’s consolation final after going 1-1 in the bracket. The senior was defeated by CU’s Linda Huang in an extended match, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5, in the first round before notching a 6-3, 6-1, win over New Mexico State’s Quinty Janssen to advance. Sethi will take on UNM's Bronte Murgette in the final. 

Freshman Nina Jabrzemski suffered back-to-back losses, falling to NMSU’s Yarida Rubio, 6-1, 6-3, and Natasha Munday of New Mexico, 6-0, 6-0.

The Sooners posted a perfect record in doubles play Thursday night to open the tournament. OU's tandem of Romero and Sethi defeated Colorado’s Chole Hule and Ronaldson, 7-6, before handling Keijzerwaard and Janssen of NMSU, 6-1.

Brigante and Stripp took down New Mexico’s Diana Wong and Quevado, 6-2, and topped Harlas and Arnaudova of NMSU, 6-2.

Singles play resumes at 10 a.m. CT Saturday, followed by another round of doubles matchups. Updated results and draws are below.
