SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The University of Oklahoma track and field team continues postseason competition this weekend in Sacramento, Calif., at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

Held at Hornet Stadium on the campus of the University of California, Sacramento, the three-day meet will feature the top student-athletes in the NCAA's West region competing for spots at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 6-9.

The Sooners have 34 qualifiers (11 men, 23 women) competing at the West Regional. To advance to "Tracktown," the commonly used title for the University of Oregon's exceptional track and field facilities in Eugene, qualifiers must finish in the top 12 in their respective events at prelims. The only auto-qualifiers for the national championships are the multis student-athletes.

OU returns to the track after competing at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Waco, Texas, where three individual conference titles were claimed. Senior Sarah Scott won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in a school-record time of 9:59.53, while senior Jess Woodard took home her second consecutive Big 12 outdoor title in the women's shot put. Freshman high jumper Vernon Turner claimed his first conference crown with a victory in the men's high jump. Turner cleared an outdoor program-record height of 7-5.75 (2.28 meters) to win the event.

Live results from the NCAA West Preliminary will be available through Flash Results. The meet will be streamed via FloTrack, available on a subscription basis.
