NORMAN – University of Oklahoma rowing graduate Louise Kuehster has been named the 2019 Co-Big 12 Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.

Kuehster receives the award after an exceptional senior season with the Sooners. The chemical engineering-biotechnology major graduated last month with a 3.99 grade-point average in the spring while rowing in every regatta for OU in 2018-19.

“Louise is so deserving of this recognition," said Oklahoma rowing head coach Leeanne Crain. "She is one of the most disciplined athletes I’ve ever coached. She approaches every endeavor with passion, precision, and focus. It’s been an honor to work with her and I know she’s going to continue to do great things as she enters the next chapter of her life.”

Additionally, the Castle Rock, Colo., native was named an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and a Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selection in May. As a senior, Kuehster has consistently rowed in the Sooners’ second varsity eight boat and has seen action in varsity four competition. She helped the OU rowing team to a CRCA/US Rowing top-20 ranking in 2019 and second-place finish at the Big 12 Rowing Championship.
