NORMAN - Five members of the Oklahoma women’s golf team were named to 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced Thursday.

While freshmen are not eligible to receive the honor in their first year of academic residence, all five of OU’s non-freshmen met the academic and participation requirements.

Seniors Karen Arimoto and Julienne Soo and sophomores Kaitlin Milligan and Sydney Youngblood were named to the first team, which requires at least a 3.20 GPA. Sophomore Hannah Lee earned second-team honors.

Soo, an accounting major, earned first team honors for the third straight season.

To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or over each of the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Sooners open postseason play this weekend at the 2019 Big 12 Championship in Broken Arrow, Okla. The three-day tournament begins Sunday at the Golf Club of Oklahoma.
