NORMAN – The Oklahoma wrestling team will send three student-athletes to the 2018 Greco-Roman World Team Trials on Friday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dom Demas (67 kg), Matthew Waddell (87 kg) and Anthony Mantanona (77 kg) will all represent OU at the tournament. The winners of their respective weight classes will secure a spot on the U23 US World Team.
In his last Greco-Roman competition, Demas was the runner up in his weight class. The redshirt freshman defeated each of his first two opponents in under a minute to advance to the championship. In the finals, set as a best two-out-of-three format, Demas fell in a 12-3 decision before coming back to win match two by decision (8-6), and forcing a third match. Demas finished second after losing by fall in the final bout in 0:54 (4-0).
The 2018 Greco-Roman World Team Trials are the final qualifying event of the year and the Sooners’ last competition before opening the regular season in November.
