NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma volleyball team secured its 20th win of the 2012 season when it topped TCU in four (21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-17) Wednesday night at McCasland Field House in its home finale.

The Sooners now improve to 20-10 on the year, and 9-6 in Big 12 competition, while the Horned Frogs break even at 14-14 and drop to 3-12 in conference action.

With the win, Head Coach Santiago Restrepo secured Oklahoma's 16th 20-win season in program history, and fifth since he took over the program in 2004, totaling 20-or-more wins in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011.

"To get 20 wins means that we have very good players," explained Restrepo. "We appreciate every single one of them and how they perform. For our team to be successful that has to happen.

"That continuation of people coming into the program and knowing that we are trying to maintain that level of performance year in and year out is extremely important."

His 20 wins in 2012 mark the second time in Oklahoma history and first time in 27 years that the volleyball team has secured 20-plus wins in three consecutive seasons, following long-time Sooner coach Miles Pabst who accomplished the feat between 1983-1985, with records of 25-12, 22-10 and 27-13, respectively.

Despite dropping the first set, Oklahoma battled back with a consistent offensive effort throughout the remainder of the match. The team, just two kills shy of a four-set match record (63), struck down a season-best 61 kills to hit .302 on the night off of 139 total attempts and 19 errors.

However, it was the Sooners efforts behind the service line that pushed them ahead as a pair of freshmen - Julia Doyle and Kierra Holst - each totaled three service aces en route to a program-best nine aces in a four set match. Grace Whitley, Caroline Weir and Maria Fernanda each added one a piece.

"Serving is part of the game, and it is one part of the game that you have to be very good at to put the opposing team at a disadvantage," explained Restrepo. "It's why we had Julia and Kierra serving first, they do a very good job there."

Two seniors - outside hitter Morgan Reynolds and libero Fernanda - saw their final match inside historic McCasland Field House with four years representing OU under their belt.

"Those girls are great role models. Not only on the court but of the court as well," Restrepo remarked about his pair of seniors. "They have been terrific.

"Maria has played all four years for us at libero and done an excellent job. One of the things that she does perfectly - a stat that no one keeps track of - is her passing," he added. "It's important to recognize that, because if it wasn't for her we wouldn't be able to run the offense the way that we do.

"Morgan, being a lefty and being that versatile, good and powerful is key to our team's success," continued Restrepo.

"Those are two seniors that have come in and worked extremely hard," Restrepo said. "They have helped to make this program what it is today."

Reynolds led the team with 13 kills on the night, and was one of four Sooners to knock down double-digit kills. Dunn added 12, Whitley followed with 11 of 15 swings with just one error to hit an efficient .667 against TCU, while Sallie McLaurin knocked down 10 of 21 attempts to hit .476 on the night.

In addition to her offensive efforts, McLaurin added a team-high eight total blocks off one block solo and seven block assists.

Once again, Fernanda excelled defensively, adding 19 digs against the Horned Frogs to lead the team in the category for the 29th time this season, and 99th of her career in the Crimson and Cream.

Fernanda was followed by sophomore setter Caroline Weir who had a career night with 11 digs and a co-team high 26 assists. Her performance marked the first time of her career in which the setter has totaled double-digit digs and notched 20 or more assists in a match. Freshman setter Julia Doyle also added 26 assists of her one, and was just one dig shy of a double-double performance with nine against the Horned Frogs.

The Sooners close out the 2012 regular season Saturday night against No. 25 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT.
