LEXINGTON, Ky. - The fourth-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics team opened the 2012 season with a first-place finish Saturday at "Excite Night at the Kentucky Classic" in Lexington, Ky., with a score of 195.875.

The Sooners (3-0, 0-0 Big  12) finished ahead of No. 23 Kentucky, Bowling Green and Wisconsin-Oshkosh respectively at the meet.  With the wins, OU extended its nation-leading regular season win streak to 32.

"I thought tonight was a great start to our season and I'm looking forward to next week against Oregon State," OU head coach K.J. Kindler said.

OU won all four individual event titles while the Sooners accounted for the top three scores on every event.

Junior Brie Olson won the bar title (9.85), shared the vault title with teammate Sara Stone with a career-high-tying 9.9 and split the floor title with teammate Kayla Nowak (9.85).  Senior Megan Ferguson also took home the beam title for the Sooners with a 9.85.

OU improved to 8-2 in season openers under head coach K.J. Kindler. The Sooners remain undefeated against all three opponents.  OU is 3-0 all-time against Kentucky, 2-0 versus Bowling Green and 1-0 against Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Three of OU's five newcomers competed for the Sooners Saturday. Freshman Rebecca Clark finished in the top three on vault (9.875), bars (9.8) and beam (9.775) while sophomore-transfer Lara Albright finished in second place on floor with a 9.825.

Freshman Erica Brewer competed on vault, bars and floor for the Sooners Saturday. The Kentucky-native scored a 9.85 on vault in the leadoff position, a 9.7 on bars and a 9.125 on floor after a missed-landing.

OU started the night trailing Kentucky for first place after the first rotation.  The Sooners posted three scores of 9.8 or higher on bars to score a 48.925, but the Wildcats started with a 49.025 on vault.

Olson posted a team-high 9.85 to lead the Sooners on the event, while Ferguson scored a 9.825 in the anchor position.  Freshman Rebecca Clark posted a 9.8 for OU in her first collegiate bar routine.

The Sooners pulled ahead of UK after scoring a 48.725 on beam in the second rotation.
Ferguson led OU with a 9.85 on beam in the anchor position to put the Sooners in first place at the halfway point.

Sophomore Taylor Spears and Clark posted OU's second-best beam scores of the night with a pair of 9.775s. Stone added a 9.725 for the Sooners in just her third career appearance in the beam lineup.

OU extended its lead over Kentucky to 146.575-145.825 after the third rotation with a 48.900 on floor.
Sophomore-transfer Lara Albright sparked the Sooners on floor with a 9.825 in the leadoff position, followed with a 9.85 from Olson.

After a missed-landing from freshman Erica Brewer in the third position Stone stepped out of bounds and OU was forced to count a 9.575, but the Sooners recovered with a 9.85 from Nowak and a 9.8 from Ferguson in the final two routines.

Olson and Stone posted a pair of 9.9s for the Sooners in the final rotation on vault.  The scores boosted OU's team vault total to 49.300 which solidified the Sooners' first-place finish.

Olson and Stone were the only gymnasts two score a 9.9 during the quad meet while Olson's 9.9 tied her career-high on the event.

OU faces its first of five top 10 matchups this season next week as the Sooners compete against No. 7 Oregon State on Friday, Jan. 13 in Corvallis, Ore., at 9 p.m. CT.
