PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team entered the seventh inning with no runs and no hits against former Big 12 foe Nebraska Friday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

But an infield hit that barely made it back to the pitcher was all the jolt the Sooners needed.

Senior outfielder Brianna Turang led off the seventh inning of a scoreless game with a chopped infield single, sparking Oklahoma to a 2-0 win over Nebraska in Palm Springs, Calif. The win improves OU to 14-0 on the season with nine of those wins coming via shutout.

After Turang's single, sophomores Lauren Chamberlain and Georgia Casey each drew walks to load the bases. Senior Jessica Shults then singled through the right side on a 1-1 count to plate the game's only runs.

Senior Keilani Ricketts secured the win, battling Nebraska's Tatum Edwards in a tight pitcher's duel.

Ricketts threw her fifth shutout of the season as she struck out nine batters in a complete-game effort. She yielded just three hits and allowed one walk.

Edwards was effective, but wild for the Cornhuskers. She gave up two earned runs on two hits and struck out eight, but she walked nine and hit another batter.

Up until the seventh inning, it was a game of missed opportunities for both teams.

The Sooners and Cornhuskers each put two runners on in the second and third innings but couldn't capitalize.

In the fifth inning, each team put runners into scoring position but neither was able to score.

Oklahoma loaded the bases with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Courtney Breault led off the fifth for the Huskers with a single to center field. Two sacrifice bunts later put her on third, but Ricketts got Gabby Banda to pop out to Jessica Vest at shortstop.

The Cornhuskers again got the leadoff batter on in the sixth, but Ricketts struck out Brooke Thomason and then got Edwards to hit into a 1-6-3 double play to squelch the Huskers' last good scoring chance.

Oklahoma closes out play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday morning against No. 23 Florida State. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. CT.
