NORMAN, Okla. - The fifth-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics squad defeated No. 20 N.C. State, 196.475-194.075, Friday in OU's fifth-annual Beauty and the Beast competition alongside OU wrestling at the Lloyd Noble Center.
OU posted its second-highest team score of the season with the 196.475 in front of the Beauty and the Beast-record crowd of 2,492.  On the wrestling side, the 10th-ranked Sooners defeated No. 23 Virginia Tech, 19-12.

"We hit 24 of 24 routines tonight," OU Head Coach K.J. Kindler said. "I can't ask for a whole lot more than that at this point in the season."

Friday was the 2012 home opener for the Sooners, who swept all four team event titles and all five individual event titles including the all-around. 

Taylor Spears won her second straight all-around title with a 39.200 overall.  Senior Sara Stone won the vault title outright with a 9.9 while senior Megan Ferguson won the bar title outright with a 9.85.

Four Sooners shared the beam championship with scores of 9.825 (Rebecca Clark, Ferguson, Kayla Nowak and Stone) while Ferguson and Stone shared the floor title with a pair of 9.875s.
OU improved to 3-0 all-time against the Wolfpack and 6-1 in home openers under Kindler.

OU led N.C. State after the first rotation with a team score of 49.200 on vault to start the night. 
Stone led the team with a 9.9 on the event, her third score of 9.9 or higher out of four vaults this season.  Madison Mooring (9.85), Spears (9.85) and Erica Brewer (9.825) added scores of 9.8 or higher for the Sooners.

The Sooners extended their lead to 98.250-96.825 at the halfway point with a 49.050 on bars.
Ferguson posted a team-best 9.85 on the apparatus in the anchor position.  Ferguson has scored a 9.825 or higher in three of her four bar routines this season.

Sophomore Hayden Ward made her first appearance in the bar lineup this season and started the Sooners off with a 9.8 on the event.  The Sooners added three additional scores of 9.8 from Brewer,
Spears and Olson to make the 49.050, the team's second-highest bar score this season.

OU had four scores of 9.825 on beam to post a team score of 49.075 in the third rotation.  Nowak, Stone, Clark and Ferguson all posted 9.825s while Mooring added a 9.775 for the Sooners.

The Sooners finished on floor with a 49.150 led by two scores of 9.875 from Stone and Ferguson in the final two spots in the lineup.

OU will see two top five matchups in less than 48 hours next weekend. The Sooners host No. 4 Nebraska, Centenary and Minnesota next Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the LNC, before heading to Fayetteville to face No. 1 Arkansas on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
