NORMAN, Okla. -- Four players posted multi-hit efforts to propel the No. 17-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team to a 7-2 win over Northwestern State Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park, giving the Sooners (16-4) the weekend series victory over the Demons (9-12).

OU pounded out 11 hits, marking the 11th time in 2013 the Sooners have tallied at least 10 hits in a game. Junior second baseman Hector Lorenzana went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the offensive charge. Junior infielder Matt Oberste went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, extending his hitting streak to 23 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 season and giving him the third-longest such streak in OU history. Senior infielder Garrett Carey blasted his third home run of the season while freshman infielder Kolbey Carpenter also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

"I was pleased with our offense," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. "They were able to bunt the ball and run the bases, and we got some timely hitting, which is the key to baseball. That's really how the game is built now, is that you've got to get hits with two outs."

Junior southpaw starting pitcher Dillon Overton went 7.1 innings and fanned five to earn the pitching victory, improving to 5-1 on the season. Freshman right-handed reliever Ralph Garza, Jr., got the final two outs of the eighth inning, and freshman lefty Jacob Evans tossed a scoreless ninth, striking out two.

"Dillon did a nice job today," said Golloway. "I thought we pitched the ball pretty well. Ralph is still young and making progress, and Jacob was really good in the ninth."

The Sooners broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a four-run frame. Freshman outfielder Hunter Haley was hit by a pitch to lead things off. Senior outfielder/infielder Max White coaxed a walk two outs later. Oberste then delivered the game's first run with a single to left, plating Haley. Carpenter drove in White with a base hit to center to make it 2-0. Lorenzana plated Carpenter and Oberste with a single back up the middle to give OU a four-run lead.

OU tacked on three more insurance runs in the sixth. Carey belted a two-out homer over the left field wall to extend Oklahoma's advantage to 5-0. Haley followed with a base hit to right, then scored by way of a double to center by senior infielder Jack Mayfield. Freshman outfielder Craig Aikin plated the seventh run of the game for the Sooners with a single to center, driving in Mayfield.

Northwestern State plated two runs in the top of the eighth to make it a five-run contest, but that's as close as the Demons got.

Oklahoma shoots for the series sweep over Northwestern State Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised live on FOX Sports Southwest Plus and FOX College Sports.
