Kip Sanders - Spirit Program Coordinator
Kip has been the Spirit Program Coordinator at OU since 2011. Kip began his collegiate Spirit Program experience as a member of the co-ed cheerleading team at the University of Texas from 2001 - 2005. During his time in Austin he participated in 4 bowl games including the 2004 Rose Bowl and the 2005 BCS National Championship. After his graduation in 2005 Kip began his graduate studies at Baylor University, where he coached both the co-ed and all-girl cheer teams. After receiving his master's degree in Sport Management he was hired by the Baylor Athletic Department as the Assistant Director of Spirit and Marketing in 2009. In this capacity he continued his role as the Head Cheer Coach for the Spirit Squads while also performing a wide range of duties for the marketing department. Kip was also a staff member for the Universal Cheerleaders Association from 2003 - 2011. While on UCA staff Kip was awarded "Rookie of the Year" in 2003, and "Head Instructor of the Year" in both 2006 and 2009. Since his hiring in 2011 Kip has grown to love OU and the Norman community. He is extremely proud to be a part of one of the most prestigious athletic departments in the nation and to work with such an amazing group of young people. Boomer Sooner!
Taylor Burget – Head Pom Coach
Taylor Treat Burget is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Human Relations. While at the University, she was a four year member of the OU Pom team and was named Captain her senior year. Being in the program she was allowed the opportunity to cheer three Big XII Championships, two Fiesta Bowls, and a National Championship, for OU Football; for Men’s and Women’s Basketball, she was able to cheer sweet sixteens, elite eights, and a final four . In June of 2009, she was crowned Miss Oklahoma. She went on to represent Oklahoma at the 89th Miss America competition where she placed in the top 12 and became Oklahoma’s first to walk away with the Quality of Life award. In the spring of 2011, she completed another degree in Pilates from Balanced Body University to help her students become stronger and healthier dancers. She is going into her 10th year of teaching dance, and choreography, and her 5th year of coaching pom. Aside from dance and pom, Taylor is the Director of Flip Nation Marketing Firm. Taylor and her husband, Brian, are both proud Sooner Alumni and love attending all OU athletic events!
Barbie Parker – Head Cheer Coach
Barbie is an OU graduate with a degree in Communications. She was a proud member of the OU cheerleading team from 1980-1984, and was the team captain during her final year. Barbie was also a long-time Head Instructor for the National Cheerleaders Association, as well as the successful owner and operator of the nation's longest running cheerleading and power tumbling gym. She has judged at the collegiate, high-school and international levels, and is excited about joining one of the nation's elite athletic departments. Barbie is thrilled to return to her alma mater, and is dedicated to making a positive contribution to a cheer program she loves. Barbie's husband, Steve, is an OU law graduate and her son, Mason, received his degree in English from OU in 2011. Her daughter, Micah, is a current OU student and member of the All-Girl Cheer team.
Daniel Laakman – Assistant Cheer Coach
Daniel graduated from OU with a degree in Journalism in 2009 and was a member of the coed cheerleading squad. During that time, he competed in several partner stunt competitions and was captain of the team for his final two seasons. After graduating from OU, he pursued a degree in nursing from Oklahoma City University. Daniel has worked for both the Universal Cheerleading Association and the National Cheerleading Association and currently works full time as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at St. Anthony Hospital. Daniel is also active with the mascot program and is thankful that he doesn't have to clean their costumes. Daniel and his wife, Virginia, reside in north Oklahoma City.
Peggy Whaley - Athletic Camps Coordinator
Peggy Whaley, Athletic Camps Coordinator, oversees the summer Spirit Camps for University and other clinics and competitions. Peggy just finished her 24th year of managing the summer camps for the American Cheerleaders Association, National Cheerleaders Association, National Dance Alliance, Universal Cheerleaders Association, and Universal Dance Association. Peggy was the cheer coach for OU from 1995-1998. Peggy holds a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Education. She is married to Mike and they have a daughter, Mary Beth, and granddaughter, Avereigh.
