In his 20 years as an OU assistant coach, he amassed a 150-67-5 record, a national championship, five Big Eight Conference titles and seven bowl game victories.

Inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002.
First recipient of the National Football Foundation Integrity Award in 2003. The award was subsequently named in his honor.

An All-Big Seven tackle for Missouri where he was an academic all-conference selection as well.
Co-captained and played in the Blue-Gray All-Star game.
