Head Coach Sherri Coale
• Opening Statement:
“I am really proud of our team.  For those of you that I’ve talked to, I’ve said repeatedly that our workouts have been very pure, a lot of extra effort.  The nice chemistry, nice camaraderie and the air in the gym have been excellent and I think it reflected in the way we played tonight.  There was great leadership from Amanda Thompson and new guys coming in and playing extremely well gave us quality minutes.  They really showed what we have the potential to do.”

• On the defensive intensity:
“I think that’s a reflection of the depth that we have and the competition that exists for all spots on the floor, and that is so healthy for a team.  We have to continue to have that -- where people are scratching and clawing for playing time, playing so hard that they get exhausted and then somebody can come in and play for them.  We have the quality on our bench to do that.  I think that’s also a sign of maturity.  I think you have to be fairly mature to be able to push yourself and play in the same way regardless of the circumstance.”

• On Amanda Thompson’s versatility:
“Her fitness level is terrific.  Even though Nyeshia (Stevenson) was on her to run a little harder, Amanda can play any spot on the floor.  She can do anything you need her to do.  I think you could tell already tonight how much more confidence she has shooting the basketball.  You better guard her -- it’s a different scenario and that opens up her opportunity to do what she does best, in my opinion, which is deliver the basketball. “

• On Danielle Robinson’s improvements as a sophomore:
“(Her game as a sophomore) looks completely different.  She’s in charge of what’s happening on the floor, she’s sure of her ball-handling abilities and she feels confident as a scorer.  Defensively, she knows enough about what to do away from the ball now, that her on-ball defense is even tougher now.  It’s been fast.  I just think she’s jumped a level.”

Junior Forward Amanda Thompson
• On the performance of her team:
“I see a lot of potential. It’s still early in the year and we’re getting adjusted with each other.  I feel like once we build our chemistry, we have a chance to be really good.”

• On the newcomers:
“We have a lot of veterans on our team and the newcomers are fitting in well. We’re helping them out day-by-day and they are just looking better as the time goes on.”

• On finally playing against another team:
“It felt so good, I was just happy to get out there and play.  We’ve been practicing for about 17 days now and I was just happy to play against someone else.”

Freshman Guard Whitney Hand
• On starting in her first collegiate game:
“It was crazy.  I didn’t think I would get that nervous but when the lights went out my heart just kind of stopped.  It was awesome, it was fun and it was a good experience.”
