NORMAN, Okla. -- Sherri Coale will have a familiar face on the court when World University Games team tryouts begin.

Oklahoma senior-to-be Aaryn Ellenberg has received an invitation to attend the USA Basketball Women’s World University Games Team trials, the organization announced today.

Ellenberg was among 31 athletes selected by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee to appear at the tryouts, May 16-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Coale was announced in March as head coach of the team that will compete in the 2013 World University Games, held July 8-15 in Kazan, Russia.

Ellenberg scored 18.7 points per game to lead the Sooners. The sharpshooter led the Big 12 Conference in 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage, setting OU season and career records in the process. Her total of 115 3-pointers in 2012-13 was more than that of 76 Division I teams.

Following the team trials, a 12-member squad will be selected and resume training camp at the USOTC June 25.

Organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and held every other year, the World University Games is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17 and 24 (born Jan. 1, 1989 through Dec. 31, 1995). The U.S. women’s basketball team will be comprised of U.S. citizens who are currently enrolled in college and have remaining eligibility.

USA Basketball women's teams have participated in 16 prior World University Games and collected a record eight gold medals, six silvers and one bronze medal.

Chaired by Jim Foster, the 2013-16 USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee includes NCAA appointees Melanie Balcomb (head coach, Vanderbilt University), Lindsay Gottlieb (head coach, University of California) and Joi Williams (head coach, UCF), as well as athlete representative Kara Lawson, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist who has been a part of nine USA Basketball teams.
