Return to Recap
Head Coach Lon Kruger
“A tough ball game from start to finish. We shot the ball really well in the first half and got a little bit of a margin. Texas bit into that a little bit by halftime. I thought Texas controlled the first 10 to 12 minutes of the second half. I thought both teams really battled hard all night. Tough ball game, really good learning opportunity for our guys, understanding how tough it is every time out in the Big 12. Texas has been playing great, so to come into a tough place and beat a good team that’s playing well, I feel awfully happy for our guys.”
On finishing the game:
“The opportunity was there to go either direction, and when you get a little bit of a lead inside that last minute, it’s hard to finish a game. It’s hard to get a win. We gave up a couple of buckets. I thought Texas hit a couple of tough shots during that time. I thought our guys played it pretty well, but Texas is good, so they knocked them down anyway. But I thought our last minute was executed pretty well."
On opening the Big 12 schedule with a win:
“The league is really tough, so anytime you can win, let alone win on the road, you are going to feel good about it. We’ve got 17 more now, and we talk to our guys all the time about how significant and how tough every one of them is. We’ve got to prepare to play with great energy and great enthusiasm and great focus every night. Tonight was a good start.”
Freshman Guard Jordan Woodard
On the way he finished the game:
“I was dealing with foul trouble at the beginning of the game, but my teammates and coaches just kept encouraging me to stay locked into the game. The last few minutes of the game, Coach kept calling my number, and I just wanted to make the right plays for my teammates, and luckily I was able to get into the paint and make a layup and get to the line and make some free throws."
Sophomore Guard Buddy Hield
On hitting 3-point shots:
“You could say that (that it was in the flow of the game). My teammates found me at the right time at the right spots, my comfort spots. This was a good team effort. Everybody found each other at the right time. Frank (Booker) hit a couple of 3’s. Tyler (Neal) hit a couple of 3’s. Isaiah (Cousins) hit a couple of 3’s. Just a great team effort sharing the basketball today.”
