NORMAN, Okla. -- A new NCAA rule will allow the Oklahoma men's basketball team to begin official practice this Friday, weeks earlier than in the past. The Sooners will hit the Lloyd Noble Center practice gym floor at 2 p.m. as they continue to prepare for the 2013-14 season, their third under head coach Lon Kruger.

Previously, men's basketball practice began the Friday closest to Oct. 15. Thanks to an April rule change, the NCAA now allows teams to have 30 days of practice in the 42 days before their first regular-season game. OU's season opener will be Nov. 8 against Alabama in the Tip-Off Showcase in Dallas, Texas.

As in the past two seasons, Oklahoma's practices will be open to the public. In addition to Friday's workout, the Sooners will practice Saturday at 10 a.m. Next week they'll practice Monday (2 p.m.), Tuesday (2:30 p.m.), Thursday (2 p.m.), Friday (2 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m.). Fans looking to attend OU's workouts should enter via the Lloyd Noble Center's south ramp door.

"We had a very good trip to Europe in August," said Kruger of OU's five-game exhibition excursion to Belgium and France. "We came back and gave the guys some time off to recharge their batteries and now they're excited for the start of official practice on Friday."
