NORMAN, Okla. -- Redshirt freshman southpaw starting pitcher Adam Choplick fanned a career-high eight, and junior infielder Matt Oberste matched his career best by going 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the No. 17-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team beat Northwestern State, 8-3, Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners (17-4) swept the weekend series over the Demons (9-13) and rattled off their fifth straight victory.

Oklahoma tallied 11 hits for the second game in a row, marking the 12th time in 2013 the Sooners have totaled at least 10 hits in a game. OU capitalized on five Northwestern State errors in the victory.

"We pride ourselves on being a club that, if given an opporunity to have a fourth out, we can score every time," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. "When you don't take advantage of your opponent's mistakes, you've made a mistake. We were able to capitalize on their errors. Good teams do that. We also had some clutch hitting. It was a great team effort all-around from our guys."

Oberste extended his hitting streak to 24 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 season, which is the third-longest such streak in OU history. Senior outfielder/infielder Max White tallied a double and a single to go along with an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman outfielder Justin Burba went 2-for-3 with an RBI while freshman infielder Kolbey Carpenter drove in two runs.

Choplick limited Northwestern State to one run on three hits in 6.2 innings of work and earned the pitching victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. Freshman left-handed reliever Jacob Evans tossed the final 2.1 innings and earned his third save.

"I thought Adam pitched really well," said Golloway. "He looked sharp and mixed his pitches well and did what we asked him to do."

OU grabbed the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior infielder Jack Mayfield coaxed a leadoff walk and scored by way of an RBI groundout by White.

The Sooners extended their lead to 3-0 in third. Freshman outfielder Craig Aikin reached on a dropped fly ball, then scored on a throwing error that put White on. White scored OU's third run on another error by the Demons.

Oklahoma made it a five-run game with two more scores in the fifth. White hit a one-out single to right center, and Oberste joined him on the bases after he was hit by a pitch. Carpenter plated both of them when he reached on a single and an error.

Northwestern State struck back with three runs in the top of the third to cut OU's lead to two, but the Sooners responded by plating three runs of their own in the home half. White hit a leadoff double to right and scored on a base hit to left by Oberste. Junior infielder Hector Lorenzana drew a walk one out later, then Oberste scored on an error that put junior catcher Dylan Neal on. Lorenzana scored Oklahoma's eighth and final run by way of an infield single by Burba.
