NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma baseball Head Coach Sunny Golloway announced the signing of 15 student athletes as part of the 2013 incoming class on Tuesday. The recruits signed National Letters of Intent in the early signing period and are set to join the Sooners next fall.

The OU coaching staff inked 11 high school players, including four of the state of Oklahoma’s best in Jacob Evans, a two-way player from Broken Arrow H.S., Taylor Hawkins, a catcher from Carl Albert H.S., Carson McPherson, a left-handed pitcher from Ardmore H.S., and Colt Pickens, an infielder/outfielder from Yukon H.S.

The Sooners also plucked three of the best south of the Red River in Kolbey Carpenter (infielder from West ISD), Ralph Garza (RHP/INF from New Braunfels H.S.) and Huntey Haley (INF/OF from Central Heights H.S.), while adding Justin Burba (OF from Wichita Campus High), the No. 3 recruit from the state of Kansas.

Class Breakdown:
High school: 11 | Junior College: 4
By State: Texas-8, Oklahoma-4, California-2, Kansas-2
By Position: INF/OF/C-8, Pitchers-5, Two-way-3
-----------------------------------------------------

Overall, 11 of the 15 recruits are from the high school ranks while the Sooners also added four junior college players.

The coaching staff signed a balance of talent at every position including eight position players, four pitchers and three two-way players.

“We feel like it’s another outstanding class with a balance of both hitting and pitching,” said Golloway. “We know how strong this year’s class coming in was ranked (No. 4 Collegiate Baseball and No. 13 Baseball America) and we feel next year’s class has the potential to be just as strong, if not stronger.  As always, we poise ourselves in understanding that they have the opportunity to sign a professional contact based on their spring performances.  With that said, I feel like our staff of Aric Thomas, Jack Giese and Ryan Gaines did an outstanding job of our holding this recruiting class together.”

The Sooners’ junior college recruits include a trio of players from perennial power Howard College in Kyle Hayes (RHP), Hector Lorenzana (INF) and Robert Tasin (RHP). OU has two players from Howard on the 2012 roster in Damien Magnifico and Tanner Toal, while other former players include Anthony Collazo, Zach Neal and Burch Smith.

Benny Suarez, a right-handed pitcher form Hill College, rounds out the list of junior college signees for the 2013 season.
