NORMAN, Okla. – Big 12 play resumes for the Oklahoma baseball team with a three-game set at Kansas. Game one of the weekend is set for 6:00 pm on Friday night.
Oklahoma has dropped back-to-back games in shutout fashion to move its record to 18-8 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12. The Sooners totaled 33 hits in the first two games of last weekend’s Kansas State series, both wins, by have just eight hits and no runs to show for it in the last two games. Junior Mac James continues to lead OU with a .429 batting average, while driving in 22 runs and scoring 20. Sophomore left fielder Hunter Haley is second at .320 and leads the team with 27 runs and 24 RBI. As a team, the Sooners are batting a collective .300 and have outscored opponents, 181-115. Sophomore RHP Ralph Garza Jr. is 3-0 with four saves and a 0.92 earned run average in a team-high 15 appearances.

All-session and weekend session tickets for the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City are on sale. 2nd - Midweek Recap
The Sooners fell to intrastate rival Oral Roberts on the road Tuesday night, 3-0. Redshirt-junior RHP Robert Tasin tossed 3.2 innings in his first career start. Oklahoma was held to just five hits, while the pitching staff held ORU to six. Redshirt-senior RHP Drew Krittenbrink pitched three-scoreless innings in relief.
3rd - Scouting the Jayhawks
Kansas, which received votes in this week’s NCBWA poll, took two games at Texas in the opening Big 12 weekend and after a bye in league play is 17-8 overall with an 11-0 shutout at Creighton on Wednesday. Designated hitter Dakota Smith leads the Jayhawks with a .352 average and is one of five players hitting over .300. Right fielder Connor McKay is at .320 with a team-leading five home runs and 34 RBI. The KU pitching staff has held opponents to a .247 batting average. Right-hander Drew Morovick is 5-1 with a 3.38 ERA, while fellow righty Frank Duncan is 2-1 with a 1.79 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work.
4th - Third Straight Big 12 Award
Lorenzana became the third Sooner in as many weeks to earn a Big 12 weekly award as he was named the Co-Player of the Week along with West Virginia’s Billy Fleming. Lorenzana hit .474 (9-for-19) over a five-game week and scored five runs, while driving in three with three doubles for a .632 slugging percentage. Over the last nine games, Lorenzana’s batting average has risen from .203 to .275 as he is hitting .406 (13-for-32).
5th - All-Time vs. KU
Oklahoma has doubled up Kansas in the all-time series; leading 126-63-1. Prior to a Jayhawk win in Norman on March 30, 2013, the Sooners had won 12 straight in the series.
6th – Championship Rematch
Oklahoma defeated Kansas, 7-2, in the Big 12 Championship game at Bricktown Ballpark on May 26, 2013. Jacob Evans pitched five innings of four-hit, one-run ball in relief to earn his seventh win of the season. The Sooners scored three in the first, all with two outs, and added a Matt Oberste homer in the third.
7th - Get the Ladd a Win
Senior RHP Kindle Ladd pitched just 0.1 innings against Kansas State on Saturday, but was credited with the first win of his career. The win came in 49th appearance of his career. He is now 1-0 on the season and 1-2 in his career.
8th - Shave for the Brave
On April 3, Oklahoma will join the fight against childhood cancer by hold a “Shave for the Brave” event following practice. Shave for the Brave works in conjunction with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to raise money for cancer research. The event will also serve as an opportunity for the Sooners in their countdown to 19 Ways.
9th - Grand Finale
Fans were treated to some early fireworks during Friday night’s game as Haley drilled a fifth-inning home run over the wall in right. The home run was the fifth of the season for Haley as well as his first career grand slam. It was the first grand slam by a Sooner since Ricky Eisenberg against Kansas on May 8, 2011. The next day, James went deep to left for the second OU grand slam of the weekend. James’ home run was his third of the season.
