NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma baseball team and head coach Pete Hughes invite the Sooner community to a fun night of free baseball for the team’s first ALS Awareness Halloween Game on Thursday, October 24 at 6:00 pm at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The intra-squad scrimmage will mark the end of fall ball and players will be participating in full costume for the event.

Admission is free and fans are encouraged to join the Sooners by wearing costumes to the stadium. Free candy will be passed out for all kids. Come in costume for the chance to trick-or-treat at the field with OU baseball players.

“The players are excited, it’s fun for these guys,” stated Hughes. “The transition we’re going through has made things so serious this fall. I think it’s apropos that we end the fall with some smiles on our face and bring light to a great cause. Our guys are excited about it. There’s a lot of excitement about the costumes that are going to be worn. I wish they put as much preparation into their baseball as they have into their Halloween costumes.”

The ALS Awareness Halloween Game originated in coach Hughes final year at Virginia Tech, last season.

“Pete Frates, a former player of mine at Boston College and one of my all-time favorite players, was diagnosed two springs ago with ALS at 27 years old. A lot of these guys that I’m looking at right now, in our program, I’m looking at the same face as Pete Frates. Anything that we can do to raise awareness and funds to shed light on this and help find a cure is an important night.”
