NORMAN, Okla. -- Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year Austin O'Brien filed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Oklahoma Tuesday, OU head baseball coach Sunny Golloway announced.
"We're very excited to have Austin join the Sooner baseball family," Golloway said. "He's been a really good player and a power bat for a program that had an undefeated season. We're looking forward to Austin having a very special career at the University of Oklahoma."
O'Brien batted a team-leading .402 with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs and 38 runs scored for Owasso High School, leading the Rams to a 36-0 season and 6A state championship.
He struck out just nine times in 107 plate appearances.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound, right-handed infielder was also the 2013 Tulsa Metro Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year.
O'Brien is a National Honor Society member who has maintained a 4.12 GPA.
O'Brien's father, John, holds the single-season record for home runs at Oral Roberts University and his uncle, Charlie, played 15 Major League Baseball seasons.
