NORMAN, Okla. – The Sooners return home to take on TCU at 7:00 pm at McCasland Field House for “Student Night” on Wednesday.
1. About the Sooners
Oklahoma enters Wednesday’s match 18-7 overall, 6-5 in the Big 12 and looking to snap a three-match losing streak, its longest since 2011. Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin leads the way for the Sooner attack with 3.70 kills per set and a Big 12-leading .438 hitting percentage. Sophomore libero Taylor Migliazzo leads the OU defense with 3.84 digs per set followed by senior outside hitter Keila Rodriguez at 3.26. Rodriguez has notched a team-high eight double-doubles and has chipped in with 2.34 kills per set.
2. Last Time They Met
Oklahoma, led by a 23-kill effort from McLaurin, came away with a 3-2 win at TCU on October 23; 25-16, 17-25, 25-22, 21-25 and 15-9. McLaurin hit .537 for the match, marking the seventh time this season she has hit .500 or better. Sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst finished second on the team with 17 kills. For TCU, Smith led the way with 17, while Igodan added 12 and a team-hit .346. Shane Peters led all players with 27 digs, while OU’s Migliazzo picked up 25.
3. Moving Up the Ranks
In Oklahoma’s sweep over Baylor on October 19, McLaurin moved into the top 10 in kills all-time at Oklahoma. In that match she passed Maraget Page (1983-86) and Trenell Carter (1984-87), who had 1,170 and 1,171, respectively. McLaurin’s 1,250 currently ranks her eighth. She trails former teammate Suzy Boulavsky (2008-11) by 81 for seventh.
4. Home Court Advantage
Despite an early season loss to Miami, Oklahoma is 7-2 in home matches this season and improved to 83-37 (.692) at McCasland Field House under Restrepo. The Sooners are averaging 870 in attendance at home dates, topped with 2,128 against No. 1 Texas on November 2. Since the Oklahoma volleyball program took its first serve in 1974, the Sooners have tallied a 295-192 (.606) record on their home court.
5. All-Time vs. TCU
The Horned Frogs took the first match played between the two squads, 3-1, in 2004. Since then, the Sooners are unbeaten and lead the all-time series, 7-1. Oklahoma swept the season series in 2012, TCU’s first year in the Big 12, by scores of 3-0 and 3-1.
6. Hitter’s High
Through 25 matches, McLaurin is hitting a career-best .438, besting her .357 attack rate from a year ago. She ranks first in the Big 12 and is 19 points ahead of Texas freshman Chiaka Ogbogu, who has only played 50 sets compared to McLaurin’s 91. The next closest player in the league with at least 60 sets played is Kansas’ Tayler Soucie at .358; 80 points back of McLaurin. She also ranks 10th nationally, trailing Florida’s Chloe Mann for first at an impressive .514.
